Introductions, Ruth Addison Award of Excellence, and Brief Overview on Breast Cancer and Surgical Management and How a Breast Nurse Navigator Helps Ease the Journey

In this session, Dr. Blumencranz will review the history of breast cancer treatment. Review surgical options in treatment including oncoplastic resection and reconstructive surgery. Discuss the use of sentinel node biopsy. Provide highlights on systemic management, radiation therapy, and the use of genomics.

Learning Objectives: 

- Understand the indications for breast conservation versus mastectomy.
- Learn about the management of the axilla to reduce the risk of lymphedema.
- Understand the importance of multidisciplinary treatment planning involving surgery radiation therapy and medical therapy.
