Pre-conference Sessions:

American Breast Care: Basic Foundations of Fitting

Location: Atrium 7 Date: Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The ABC’s of Fitting Basic Foundations of Fitting course is the “Pre-certification” or “Approved Entry Level” course that meets or exceeds the pre-certification prerequisites set forth by both ABC and BOC. This course prepares an individual to sit for the ABC and/or BOC mastectomy fitter certification exam. This course is ideal for a new or inexperienced mastectomy fitter, but is also a great refresher course for an experienced fitter. Class content includes:

  • Certification requirements
  • Breast cancer types, stages and surgeries
  • Breast physiology and pathophysiology
  • Measuring for fitting
  • Selecting product
  • Fitting room etiquette
  • Regulatory and ethical considerations for patient management
  • Building a lasting relationship with your patients
  • Basic marketing
  • Live, hands-on fitting demonstration

ABC certificants are eligible to receive: 7 (S) and 1 (B) Cat II Credits. BOC certificants are eligible to receive: 8.75 Cat I and .25 Cat II CEUs.

American Breast Care Beyond Fitting: Cornerstones to Success

Location: Atrium 7 Date: Saturday Sept., 16, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The ABC's of Fitting Beyond Fitting: Cornerstones to Success course an extension of the Basic Foundations of Fitting course and is recognized by both ABC and BOC as a “Continuing Education” course for an experienced fitter. This course explores critical topics, such as billing, more deeply than time allows for in the Basic Foundations of Fitting course. This course is most appropriate for an experienced mastectomy fitter, however, a new or inexperienced mastectomy fitter will benefit greatly as it will better prepare the individual for the ABC and/or BOC mastectomy fitter certification exam. Class content includes:

  • Breast Cancer
  • Anatomy, Physiology & Pathophysiology
  • Types of Breast Cancer
  • Stages of Breast Cancer
  • Cell Grade of Breast Cancer
  • Surgeries & Treatments
  • Quality of Life Model
  • Relating to the Patient
  • Lymphedema
  • Documentation and Billing updated to address current requirements & challenges
  • Marketing

ABC certificants are eligible to receive: 7.25 (S) and 1.75 (B) Cat I Credits. BOC certificants are eligible to receive: 7.5 Cat I and 1.5 Cat II CEUs.

Anita International-Breast Care Post-mastectomy Fitters Training Program (Masters Component Included)

Date: Saturday Sept., 16, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Anita Breast Care has partnered with Essentially Women, and we are offering at no charge our Anita Post-Mastectomy Fitter Training Class with Masters Component. This class is appropriate for beginners as well as experienced fitters, and is approved by ABC, BOC & NCOPE and has been awarded 7.75 Category I, and 1 Category II credits.

The Anita class will review topics such as:

  • Anatomy & physiology
  • Surgical procedures  
  • Adjuvant therapies
  • Lymphedema & therapies  
  • Choosing the correct breast form & bra to accommodate the surgical site
  • Proper fitting room conduct
  • Accurate charting and documentation techniques

Your instructor will be Colleen Ruby, CFm, CMF, the Education Manager for Anita International. Colleen has over 35 years experience in the breast care industry. Her experience makes her uniquely qualified to present our curriculum, as has been both a retailer and a vendor, and understands the business from both sides of the desk.
